Performance Intensive with Matthias

Are you an advanced or professional tribal fusion bellydancer looking for a challenge? In this 5-day intensive you will be challenged on a physical, artistic and timely manner in order to create effectively with a clear and determined mind. Not only will we create a choreography together, which will be performed at Fusion Breeze, you will also get a nice morning and evening Yoga inspired flow and the ‘independent dancer giftbag’ which will come in handy while you are creating your dance art at home.

♥ Weekend 1: Contemporary Bellydance Basics (March 12th and 13th)

Contemporary Bellydance, the concept that has been getting a lot of attention within the bellydance scene, is approached from a variety of angles. What are the basic principles of contemporary dance and what is a useful minimal scala of contemporary movements used in present day contemporary Bellydance choreographies? You will be given the starter’s kit you need to understand and process initial contemporary movement variety and some ready made patterns for you to start mixing it up with advanced bellydance movements. With this starter kit we will dive into creating our choreography. We all start and star together, dancing and creating a choreography from its foundation to its ending point on stage.

♥ Weekend 2: From Muse to Masterpiece: Choreography (April 30th and May 1st)

What inspires you will inspire others: music, poetry, art, life… What is it that makes you connect to the scala of emotions and feelings all people share? How can we connect to the movements in a way that communicates our message from the stage to the audience? In this workshop you will be given a handful of different types of choreographing and get a step closer to discovering what methods work best for you. Create, cut up, recreate. The ripening of the final masterpiece is what this weekend is all about.

Planeet Mars, Land van Waaslaan 78, 9040 Ghent, Belgium

Matthias began dancing at the age of 8 with classical ballet and since then has trained in various other dance styes. He was taught ATS by Gonda of Tribal Mystica (NL) and due to lack of teachers traveling Europe at that time, taught himself most of the bellydance techniques used in the tribal fusion scene. He complemented his technique by studying or collaborating with artists such as Kami Liddle, Mira Betz, Zoe Jakes, Heather Stants, Samantha Hasthorpe, Tjarda Van Straten, Anasma, Sharon Kihara, Susan Frankovich, Suhaila Salimpour, and contemporary/classically trained artists like Isabelle Beernaert, Laurent Flament, Marie Louise Wilderijckx. In 2012 he went to San Francisco USA for 4 months to study in depth with many of the artists mentioned above, in particular Jamila and Suhaila Salimpour, Fat Chance Bellydance and Jill Parker.

There is a minimum of 4 and maximum of 8 dancers for this intensive. To ensure the level of dancers participating, we ask all dancers to fill in an application form. Matthias will carefully study all the applications. We will let you know within a week if your application matches the requirements. If it does, you can pay a first deposit of 90 euros to ensure your spot.
